GitHub personal access tokens for TiddlyWiki
If you use the GitHub saver for Tiddlywiki, you will need to generate a Personal Access Token. Instructions for how exactly to do this, and what permissions you need, are annoyingly hard to come by in 2026.
-
Click your user icon (top right), then click Settings.
-
Scroll down and click Developer Settings (bottom of left hand menu) then click Personal access tokens → Fine-grained tokens on the left.
-
Configure the token:
- Give the token a name (e.g. “TiddlyWiki saver”)
- Set it to No expiration.
- For “Repository Access”, select Only select repositories and pick the repo for your TiddlyWiki.
-
Under “Permissions”, click Add permissions. Select
Contentsand then change its access level toRead and write.
-
Click Generate Token and make sure to save a copy of it somewhere safe.
